Vincent after the 8 day climb!

Vincent Board of BOARD BROTHERS Clapham Junction, London (a long standing customer of Imex) took on the challenge of a lifetime, recently. Along with his wife Jane, son Simon, daughter Laura and her partner Wayne, they set off to Tanzania on the 1st October, to climb the highest free standing mountain in the world and the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

At a whopping 5,893 metres, the climb was to take them eight days and took the group through some of the most stunning scenery they had ever seen. The days were comfortably warm, but the nights, which were spent in their two man tents, were freezing cold. Altitude sickness became an issue with everyone in the group, but poor Jane suffered severely and was advised to leave the mountain on the fourth day.

The remainder of the group carried on with the climb and reached the summit on the 6th night totally exhausted. Although, the sunrise and scenery from the top was amazing, making it all worthwhile.

Before leaving base camp on the final morning, the group gave their porters items of clothing, footwear, sleeping bags etc. Vincent gave a fleece jacket and his Imex woolly hat that he had proudly worn to the top! The young porter wears it now with pride. Warm articles of clothing are treasured by these poor hard working lads, who hump all our gear to the top and back. The Imex hat will go to the top of the highest free standing mountain in the world, many more times.

Vincent and Jane climbed in aid of Cancer Research and The David Mather Foundation and they would like to thank Imex for making a generous donation and providing Vincents head gear! If anyone would like to make a further donation, then contact Vincent Board Tel: 020 72288136.

Imex would like to say a very big well done to Vincent and his family.
